Louis Zukofsky (1904-1978) was one of the most important of America’s modernist poets and is perhaps best known for his long poem A. He lived most of his life in New York City, near the print shop where Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass was first set in type and taught at a number of universities. He has been closely associated with Ezra Pound, William Carlos Williams, and Charles Olson.
